Aristocratic palace tour in Zemgale

This will be a historic and aristocratic day tour in Zemgale palaces. You will see 3 palaces, including the 'Versailles of Latvia' or recently rennovated Rundāle palace, as well as enjoy the theatrical tour led by the courtiers. If you want to spend a day in the aristocratic style, this is a tour for you! 

Zemgale region holds so many beautiful and gorgeous palaces close to each other like no other place in Latvia. Rundale Palace, Bauska Castle and Mežotne Castle - each of them has its own history and its own charm.

Bauska Castle was opened recently after renovation and was once the residence of the last duke. The castle is surrounded by a picturesque scenery and located on the land strip between rivers Mūsa and Mēmele. You will be able to look at the ruins of the Order Castle built in 15th century, climb the central tower and view the scenic panorama of Bauska city. On request, a special Dance Lesson at Court can be arranged.

Rundāle Palace, also called the Versailles of Latvia is a 18th century Baroque palace, built for the Duke of Courland. Palace boasts 54 rooms and a banquet hall (Great Gallery), which have been restored to their original splendor. Thanks to the notable restoration work, stepping back in time and becoming familiar with the life of Duke of Courland has become as realistic as ever! Rundāle Palace holds many European art treasures, but the garden outside is the largest in north-east Europe, with 2400 different varieties of roses.

The Mežotne Palace is the pearl of the Latvian Classicism. It was presented by Russian Empress Catherine II to the governess of her grandchildren. Park outside the palace-  the English style landscape park is known for its natural beauty and it’ s believed it costed more than the palace itself. 

Tour starts and ends in Riga.

Length: approx. 8-10 hours

Costs: 360 EUR for the group of 1-6 people (or 60 EUR per person if there are 6 people travelling). Costs include comfortable car with the driver, professional guide for the whole day. Additional costs: entrance tickets ~15 EUR per person in all the castles.
